Fasting diets have a number of contraindications: intolerance to certain foods, various diseases and periods of increased physical or mental activity, Ksenia Selezneva, a nutritionist and head of the dietetics department at the European Medical Center (EMC), told Gazeta.Ru about this, Day.Az reports.

“The main contraindication for certain fasting days is intolerance to any of the components of the fasting diet. For example, if a person has lactose intolerance, then fermented milk fasting days are not for him. In case of exacerbation of gastrointestinal diseases, diabetes mellitus, pregnancy and breastfeeding, you should consult with “The attending physician. A competent specialist will help you understand whether a particular fasting day will be beneficial or whether it is better to abstain from it. Also, you should definitely not spend fasting days during periods of increased physical or mental activity,” Selezneva added.

Some fasting diet options may not be suitable for people with various diseases. For example, fruit or vegetable days are fraught with increased stomach acidity, which can lead to gastritis and ulcers. In addition, you need to approach fruit-based mono-diets with caution if you have high blood sugar levels.

“I always recommend that patients try different options for fasting days. This helps determine what is right for them: someone may feel great on fresh or baked apples with plenty of water, but for others it will be hard labor,” the specialist concluded .
