Obama is visiting Athens as part of the Obama Foundation Leaders program, which includes 105 emerging leaders from Africa, Asia-Pacific and Europe. Their representatives will meet with the former US President in the Greek capital. Obama will be the keynote speaker and the topic of his speech is “how to strengthen democratic culture and the importance of investing in the next generation of leaders.”
The SNF has supported both the construction of the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago, USA, and the implementation of the Obama Foundation Leaders program.
The former US President had visited the Parthenon from where he had made a post saying that, “One of the great joys of being president is the ability to travel, learn about cultures and meet people. This is important not only for our national security but also for understanding ourselves.”
“We have the Parthenon behind us and it was here in Athens that ideas like democracy and the concepts of citizenship and the rule of law began to develop,” Obama had said.
