The Office of the President is breaking its silence and responding publicly to the opposition party’s impeachment offensive.

A senior official at the Blue House said in a phone call with News 1 on the afternoon of the 3rd, “The Democratic Party must immediately stop its uncivilized attempt to destroy the Constitution and its unprecedented legislative violence coup.”

Such remarks criticize the Democratic Party of Korea for trying to force through controversial bills, including the Marine Corps Special Prosecutor Act, by taking advantage of its majority of seats, and for proposing as a party line an impeachment motion against four prosecutors involved in the indictment of Kim Hong-il, Chairman of the Korea Communications Commission, and former Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung.

President Yoon Seok-yeol made a gesture of cooperation through his first bilateral meeting with former representative Lee after his defeat in the general election. However, this atmosphere quickly went up in smoke when the Democratic Party pushed ahead with the introduction of a special prosecutor’s bill for Marines in the final stages of the 21st National Assembly and President Yoon exercised his right to demand reconsideration.

Since then, the relationship between the presidential office and the opposition party, which has been in a cooling-off phase, has been worsening since the 22nd National Assembly, when the Democratic Party reintroduced or prepared to reintroduce bills that President Yoon vetoed in the previous National Assembly, such as the Special Prosecutor’s Act on First Lady Kim Kun-hee.

Meanwhile, the impeachment of President Yoon is being openly discussed within the Democratic Party.

As the National Assembly petition calling for the impeachment of President Yoon surpassed 1 million signatures on this day, Democratic Party lawmaker Chung Cheong-rae, chairman of the National Assembly’s Legislation and Judiciary Committee, directly criticized the petition, saying, “This is the voice of the people demanding that the Yoon Seok-yeol administration and the People Power Party be judged.”

There is a growing atmosphere in the Blue House that the Democratic Party’s actions can no longer be tolerated. On the previous day (the 2nd), an official from the Blue House expressed his critical stance on the petition for the impeachment of President Yoon and the impeachment of the chairman of the Korea Communications Commission and the prosecutors.

President Yoon also revealed his discomfort by publicly attacking the Moon Jae-in administration and former leader Lee Jae-myung.

At the meeting on the ‘Second Half Economic Policy Direction and Dynamic Economic Roadmap’ held at the Blue House Guest House this morning, President Yoon attributed the current difficulties faced by small business owners to the Moon Jae-in administration’s rapid increase in lending during the COVID-19 outbreak and the subsequent rise in interest rates.

President Yoon specifically criticized former representative Lee’s provision of 250,000 won to all citizens, saying, “He said that there is no problem with finances as long as the debits and credits on the balance sheet match. If that were true, why are they only giving out 250,000 won? Why not give each citizen 1 billion won or 10 billion won?”

Earlier, President Yoon said at a Cabinet meeting the previous day, “If the politics of conflict and confrontation are repeated, we will not be able to overcome the challenges before us and we will not be able to move forward toward the future.”
