Regarding the ongoing controversy over the face-to-face investigation of President Yoon Seok-yeol’s wife, Kim Kun-hee, the Office of the President was cautious with its words on the 22nd, saying, “It is inappropriate to express a position on a matter under investigation.”
Regarding Prosecutor General Lee Won-seok’s statement that “principles were not followed” in the investigation of Ms. Kim during a phone call with Newsis on the same day, an official at the Blue House said, “Since this is a matter under investigation, it is inappropriate for the Blue House to express a position,” and “We will not be releasing an official position.”
Earlier, on the 21st, when news of Ms. Kim’s face-to-face investigation was made public, an official from the Blue House responded to criticism of “special treatment” by stating, “It is an excessive claim to claim that the fact that the incumbent president’s wife was directly investigated is a special treatment.”
Even after the Prosecutor General publicly criticized that the “principles” were not followed in the investigation of Mrs. Kim, the Office of the President has refrained from expressing an official position and maintained its existing position that it was “excessive criticism.”
An official from the Blue House also met with reporters at the Blue House in Yongsan that afternoon regarding the criticism of “special treatment,” saying, “We simply responded to the prosecution’s investigation,” and “This is the first face-to-face investigation in which a sitting president’s wife has been summoned by the prosecution and questioned. The claim of special treatment is excessive.”

When asked whether he was aware in advance of the timing or method of the face-to-face investigation by the prosecution, he said, “It happened at an appropriate time,” and “The Office of the President has nothing to say about the specific method or content of the investigation.”
