Derek Chauvin, the policeman convicted for the death of George Floyd, was stabbed in prison.

Chauvin is serving a 22-year prison sentence for the death of Floyd who later became a symbol of the protest of the African-American community. The officer, according to the court, was the one who pressed his knee against the 46-year-old’s neck and back while he was handcuffed and lying on his stomach for more than nine minutes, causing his death. Floyd was arrested on suspicion that he had used a counterfeit $20 bill while he was buying cigarettes.

Floyd’s death in 2020 sparked a wave of protests around the world against police brutality and racism in the name of the black rights movement Black Lives Matter. The former policeman was attacked by another inmate, who was immediately neutralized.

The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday refused to consider Chauvin’s appeal of his conviction. The agent had spoken of jury bias. Three officers who were with him at the time of Floyd’s arrest and death – Tou Thao, J. Alexander Keung and Thomas Lane – were convicted of misdemeanors.
