The oldest athletics judge in Bulgaria – Tsvetan Trpkov died at the age of 93 on September 5, 2024 in Sofia.

Trpkov, who was born in Lom on March 27, 1931, has been an athletic referee since 1954. Thus, for more than six decades, he has worked in thousands of athletics competitions, including two Universiades in Sofia in 1961 and 1977, the World Championships for Juniors and Girls in Plovdiv 1990, the European Indoor Championships – Sofia 1971 and dozens of Balkan championships and European team championships on the territory of the country.

Tsvetan was invariably on the timekeeping committee and gave valuable advice to the young, with precision and accuracy in his decisions in his old age.

In 2021 Trupkov turned 90 years old and was honored with a plaque during a competition at the “Vasil Levski” National Stadium – his second home.

The funeral of one of the most meritorious judges and figures of Bulgarian athletics will be held on September 7 (Saturday) at 2:30 p.m. in the church of the Central Sofia Cemetery.
