The ON Zientzia Elhuyar and DIPC video contest rewards the best short videos on science and technology – Spain

The ON Zientzia video contest, organized annually by Elhuyar and the Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC) within the framework of the Teknopolis television program, has rewarded in its 13th edition the production and dissemination of short and original videos on science and technology, aimed at All public.

The awards ceremony was held this Friday at a ceremony in Tabakalera, in San Sebastián, in which the Basque Government’s Deputy Minister for Universities and Research, Adolfo Morais, the general coordinator of Elhuyar, Jon Abril, and the director of the DIPC, Ricardo Díez.

This year, a total of 80 works have been received, with a gender balance among the participants. Videos have been presented in both Basque, Spanish and English. Most of the works have been presented from Euskadi and Navarra, and several videos have also been received from Poland, Mexico or India, among others.

The prize for the best outreach video, endowed with 3,000 euros, went to Madrid computer engineer Daniel González for the video ‘Loquita por sus huesos’. The jury highlighted that “it is a very original work, which uses the format story for dissemination”.

The architect from Usurbil (Gipuzkoa) Ane Ibargoyen has been the winner of the prize for the best video in Basque (2,000 euros), for the work ‘Mina edo pikantea?’. According to the jury, “it is an aesthetically simple work, but very effective, and it manages to explain an everyday topic very clearly and accurately, reaching the viewer.”

The Youth Prize (1,000 euros) has been for the students of the Luis Amigó School in Mutiloa (Navarra) Fermín Martínez and Aitor, for their work ‘Storytime with my cousin and with Mendel’. In the words of the jury, “it is a project carried out with great originality and with a good dose of humour, and which has been able to explain Mendel’s laws very clearly”.

In addition to the jury prizes, the videos that have received the most votes on the website www.onzientzia.tv has received the Audience Award. ‘AI and art’ by Mexican students Carlos David Macias and César Hilario Gómez and ‘Zoriontasunaren zientzia’ by Aimar Luis and Elene López, students from Axular Lizeoa in Donostia, have each received trophies.

The jury in charge of assessing the works has been made up of Marian Iriarte, dean of the Faculty of Chemistry of the UPV/EHU; Onintze Salazar, Physicist from Euskalmet; Sara Hernández, head of 2deo de Tabakalera; Jon Mattin, researcher at the UPV/EHU and associate at the DIPC; and Nagore Rementeria, member of Elhuyar and director of the Teknopolis program.
