The Steve Tisch Film and Television School and the Israeli Consulate in New York will host in New York the opening event of the International Emmy Awards in an evening honoring the work of the school in honor of its 50th anniversary.

The old institution, established in 1972, has since been a habitat for generations of creators, whose contribution to the cultural-social landscape of Israel is significant and decisive. Many of the school’s graduates are considered key people in the film and television industry and their work changed the face of the industry in Israel and promoted its status around the world. Last year, the series “Tehran” recorded a historic win at the Emmy competition, with its selection as the best drama series. In doing so, four of the school’s graduates won the prize: Moshe Zonder and Alon Arnia the producers, Omri Shenhar the screenwriter and Danny Sirkin for the directing work. All will be present at the ceremony to be held on Friday, November 18 at 18:00 (New York time), in the capacity of Consul General in New York Assaf Zamir, and Prof. Yaron Bloch, Head of the Film and Television School. Other guests of honor: Gidi Raf, creator of “Hatofim” and “Elli” and Maria Feldman, producer of “Parliament” and “Fauda” and creator of the series “Kupulim”.

The event is a follow-up to the Scripted Israel conference held by the Israeli consulates in New York and Los Angeles last September, which brought together over 40 Israeli screenwriters and producers (including producers and creators of series such as “The Commander”, “For Her Heroes Fly”, “The Beauty Queen of Jerusalem”, “Losing Alice” and more) with senior content people at companies such as Netflix, Apple, HBO, Sony, CAA, WME and more.

Over the past two years, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been investing many resources in strengthening the connections and interfaces between Israeli creators and the executives of the television and film industry around the world, as evidenced by this achievement, in which the International Emmy ceremony will mark the anniversary of the school’s founding and will dedicate the opening night specifically to the Israeli industry.

“The school has played a decisive role in the artistic renaissance of Israeli cinema and television in the last two decades. Its outstanding graduates Hagai Levy, Gidi Raf, Alon Arnia, Moshe Zonder and others were the first to export fine Israeli television content to the international arena with the series In Care, Homeland, Tehran and more. In recent years The school established a company to produce full-length films for students and recent graduates, films that were screened at the best festivals and sold for distribution all over the world. The company’s current challenge is to enter the field of television series production in the international market, hoping to return to the Emmy ceremony in the future with a winning series,” said Prof. Yaron Bloch, Head of the Film and Television School.

Assaf Zamir, the Consul General in New York added: “We are proud to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Tisch School of Film and Television, a pioneering institution that laid the foundation for the Israeli film and television industry, which continues to conquer new heights and make waves around the world. It is all but obvious that the opening night of the Emmys The international is entirely dedicated to the school and the flourishing Israeli television industry.”
