The operationalization of the membership of the Sahel countries in the Atlantic Initiative has already begun (M. Methqal)

Speaking at a panel on the theme “What Roadmap for the implementation of the Initiative for the countries of the Atlantic coast and those of the Sahel?”, as part of the 7th edition of the “Morocco Today Forum” (MTF), Mr. Methqal recalled the holding in Marrakech of a Meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger and Chad during which it was agreed to create a national Task Force, in each country, to prepare the modalities for operationalizing this Royal Initiative.

This Initiative is intended to be a “transformative” project that will promote the economic integration of the countries of the region, he said, stressing that these countries share several common challenges.

In this sense, he cited the challenges related to infrastructure and mobility, emphasizing the role of the new Dakhla Atlantique port in meeting these challenges.

Mr. Methqal also discussed the challenges related to the energy transition component, as well as those related to human development.

For his part, the Ambassador of the Republic of Mali to Morocco, Fafré Camara assured that his country fully adheres to this “audacious and credible” Initiative, noting that it offers the opportunity to develop and create infrastructures and new projects.

The Technical Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Burkina Faso, Lingani Hugues Christian, for his part, affirmed that his country adheres to this “salutary” Initiative, recalling the measures taken to operationalize this adhesion including the establishment of a national Task Force.

This panel was also marked by the interventions of the associate director at Mazars and president of the “Africa” ​​commission at the CGEM, Souleye Abdou Diop and the president of the African Chamber of Commerce and Services in Dakhla, Abdelmounaim Faouzi, who addressed the economic impact of the Royal Initiative for the countries of the region.

Placed under the theme “Atlantic Africa, for an integrated, inclusive and prosperous continental region”, this conference initiated by the Le Matin Group, in partnership with the AMCI and the Council of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region, aims to discuss the potential, the means to be put in place and the challenges to be met, with a view to realizing the Royal Vision for the development of the Atlantic coast of Africa and the access of the Sahel countries to it.

It also aims to bring together all the stakeholders concerned by this Royal Vision and to discuss the challenges to be met for it to become a reality in order to formulate recommendations which will be recorded in a white paper.
