The volume of gas transit from Russia through Ukraine since November 1 has decreased from 86 to 57 million cubic meters. m per day, said the head of the “Operator GTS of Ukraine” Serhiy Makogon on Facebook.

“Despite loud statements, the volume of transit from Russia to the EU is constantly decreasing. Since October 1, transit through Ukraine has dropped to 86 million m3 per day. At the same time, Gazprom pays for the transit capacity of 109 million m3. With such transportation volumes, Gazprom will not supply to the EU by the end of May about 5 bcm. Since November 1, transit through Ukraine has once again decreased – to 57 million per day, ”the message says.

Earlier, Makogon said in an interview with TSN that the Ukrainian GTS Operator offered Russia to extend the contract for gas transit, without waiting for its end in 2024.

On October 22, Ukraine offered Gazprom a 50% discount on gas transit to Europe in excess of the volumes stipulated in the current contract. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy told Bloomberg about this. Prior to that, during the auction, Gazprom did not book additional capacities for gas transit through Ukraine for November, TASS reported, citing data from the RBP platform.

Prior to this, the Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that the Russian side is ready to maintain gas transit through Ukraine in the event of competitive commercial proposals. Russian President Vladimir Putin said earlier that in the nine months of 2021 Gazprom increased gas supplies through Ukraine by more than 8%. “It is safe to say that we will exceed our contractual obligations to supply gas through the territory of Ukraine,” Putin said. He explained that it is economically unprofitable for Gazprom to increase pumping through the Ukrainian gas transportation system even more. Pumping through new systems is cheaper by about $ 3 billion per year.
