Former Union Minister P. Chidambaram spoke to reporters in Karaikudi about the recent disqualification of Rahul Gandhi by the Modi government. He stated that this action has created an opportunity for opposition parties to unite as all parties have condemned the decision. The case against Gandhi had been pending for three years until the complainant sought a stay on the defamation suit from the High Court, which was granted until February 2023. Gandhi had made serious allegations against the Prime Minister in Parliament on February 7, and nine days later, the complainant sought to lift the stay. The court then ordered an inquiry, and the Surat court held a trial in 30 days, resulting in Gandhi’s disqualification from his post as MP. Chidambaram believes this will have an impact on the upcoming Karnataka elections and subsequently the Lok Sabha elections. He also touched on administrative errors in collecting customs duty and praised Tamil Nadu’s Finance Minister for reducing the revenue deficit by Rs.30 thousand crores and announcing entitlement amounts for women.
