The British tabloid The Mirror wrote that the 2022 Champions League final could be moved from St. Petersburg to London due to the worsening Ukrainian crisis. The general director of the organizing committee of the final, Alexei Sorokin, said that he had not discussed the postponement with UEFA.

“We haven’t received any signals from UEFA about this. There were no discussions on the topic. We will continue to work with them as planned and communicate regularly. A UEFA visit is scheduled for March. Everything remains in place. There are no changes to date,” Mr. Sorokin told RIA Novosti.

According to The Mirror, if the final is moved to London, it could possibly take place at Wembley Stadium. In St. Petersburg, the match is planned to be held at the Gazprom Arena.

St. Petersburg was supposed to host the decisive match of the main European Cup in the 2020/21 season. Due to the coronavirus, most of the tournament play-offs in the 2019/20 season were played in the “final eight” format, so the finals had to be moved forward a year.

How are they preparing for the final – in the material “Kommersant” “UEFA checked the readiness of St. Petersburg to breed fans.”
