The Foreign Tourist Office (OET) in London has set a milestone for tourism promotion that corresponds to Turespaña with the impact that the first days focused on sustainability have had in the main market for the country (Turespaña in London organizes a forum tourism sustainability).

This project has been led by the director of that office, the renowned Manuel Butler, who has managed to consolidate Spain’s position with respect to this issuer in a factor that is currently so relevant for travelers as respect for the environment.

The awarding of the first award for the subject to a figure like Gabriel Escarrer, after nearly 40 years with Meliá as a pioneer in this paradigm, has contributed to broadening the echo of some talks through which the main actors related to the flow of travelers between the two countries (Gabriel Escarrer, chosen “Personality of the Year” at Spain’s Sustainable Media Awards).

The Spain’s Sustainable Media Awards platform has been used by Manuel Butler to extol that sustainable tourism “is at the center of our strategy at the Spanish Tourist Office in London and we are delighted to see the variety and quality of the pieces presented for our inaugural Media Awards”, with a jury that also included figures such as Carol Rose, ABTA Senior Manager of Sustainability, Thomas Power, CEO of Pura Aventura, and Richard Hammond, founder of Green Traveler.

The event featured three panels, dedicated to decarbonization, social sustainability and green transformation. The first of them had as speakers Graeme Jackson, Director of strategic cooperation of The Travel Foundation; Carol Rose, ABTA Director of Sustainability; Natalia Bóveda, Marketing Executive of the Costa del Sol, and Paul Easto, Founder and CEO of the Wilderness Scotland tour operator.

The second included the participation of Richard Hammond, Founder of Green Traveler; Javier García Cuenca, President of the ITH and the Secretariat of the AMT (Association of Tourist Municipalities); Cesáreo González, President of the Tourism Cluster of Galicia / Galicia Sustainable Destination, and Hazel McGuire, General Director of the tour operator Intrepid Travel.

The last of them had as protagonists Richard Hammond, Founder of Green Traveler; Teresa Parejo, Director of Sustainability at Iberia; David Martín, Manager of New Products and Tourist Trains at Renfe, and Jane Ashton, Director of Sustainability at Easyjet.
