Located approximately 75 km from Marrakech, this station, one of the highest in Africa, offers its numerous visitors, Moroccan and foreign, various sporting, entertainment and discovery activities which make it an unmissable place to visit.
In addition to skiing, which constitutes the main attraction of the resort for professionals and the less experienced, this natural jewel immerses its visitors in a diversified adventure, through hikes and visits devoted to the discovery of rock engravings and the promotion local products.
A few days after the first snowballs fell, the resort, which largely contributes to the tourist influence of the Marrakech-Safi region, was stormed by a large number of visitors, who came in droves to enjoy the beauty of nature and the warm welcome of the inhabitants of the region, known for their hospitality.
This is the case of Hassan, a regular at this resort from Tiznit, who said he was happy to see this natural space attracting more visitors thanks to recent snowfall, the improvement in the quality of services and the road reinforcement works.
Accompanied by his family, Hassan told MAP that despite a timid snow season so far, the Oukaïmeden ski resort still retains its charm and remains the most favored destination for Moroccans in winter.
In the same vein, Hanane and Ahmed noted that all the conditions are met in the ski resort of Oukaïmeden to have a good time with family or friends, specifying that this wonderful site welcomes visitors from all Moroccan cities which creates a friendly atmosphere.
They, at the same time, stressed that the recent snowfall will, without a doubt, replenish the region’s water table and revitalize the local tourism sector.
Mohamed, manager of a store specializing in the rental of all types of sliding equipment, noted that the demand for sliding equipment has exceeded all expectations since the return of snow to the resort, adding that the visit of national and international tourists takes place in the best possible conditions.
In this context, Ali Ait Lhaj, ski instructor in the resort for 30 years, indicated, in a similar statement, that the recent snowfall has transformed the resort which has become a destination of choice for Moroccan and foreign visitors and given a new boost to tourist activity throughout the rural commune of Oukaïmeden.
Since the return of the snow, the resort has experienced significant popularity among visitors from all regions of the Kingdom and elsewhere, which has contributed to the growth of all activities developed in the resort, including accommodation, catering and rental of sliding equipment, ensuring that the rehabilitation and modernization project of this tourist resort will attract more visitors, while meeting the growing needs of tourists in terms of modern infrastructure and services.
With a total budget of 148.34 million dirhams, financed within the framework of an agreement concluded between the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Equipment and Water, the Moroccan Society of Tourist Engineering (SMIT) and the Marrakech-Safi Region Council, the restructuring and development project for the tourist resort of Oukaïmeden aims to develop, strengthen roads and improve services.
A total investment of 230 million dirhams is also allocated to the modernization of the station and the development of new leisure infrastructure.
