An event organized by the cultural and educational project “Our Caucasus” in honor of the 149th anniversary of the National Press Day of Azerbaijan was held at Restoran Şərq in Baku, Day.Az reports.
The author and director of the project “Our Caucasus” Nini Karseladze noted the role of journalism in history and the modern world, congratulating media representatives on the holiday. With the participation of media personalities, journalists were awarded diplomas in various nominations. Among them was AMI Trend correspondent Vugar Imanov – for his contribution to the development and promotion of culture.
National Press Day is celebrated in Azerbaijan annually on July 22, the day of the release in 1875 of the first printed publication, the Ekinchi (Əkinçi, Plowman) newspaper in the Azerbaijani language by the outstanding Azerbaijani educator Hasan-bey Zardabi. The publication of the Ekinchi newspaper aroused great interest throughout the Caucasus and played an important role in the national awakening of the Azerbaijani people and the strengthening of national unity.
It was emphasized at the event that favorable conditions have been created in Azerbaijan for the free activity of the media, which worthily represent the country in the world, make a great contribution to socio-political life, promote economic, social and cultural development, convey the realities of the country to the international community, and conduct successful activities in the information sphere in the name of statehood and independence of the country, based on patriotism and high national self-awareness and progress of society.
The guests were presented with a concert program with the participation of laureates of national and international competitions Shahin Ismailov, Lala Mukhtarova, Nurlan Ordubadli, Zaza Tsereteli, Lala Aslanova and the ensemble Azəri Atəşi Rəqs Qrupu.
