Several accidents have been reported in various parts of the country in recent months due to the use of mobile phones while driving. Brigadier Muhsin al-Zahrani, Director General of Traffic, said that many of these had reached the point where entire family members were killed.

At the same time, the number of deaths due to road accidents in the country has decreased compared to previous years. In 2016, 27 road accident deaths per 1 lakh were reported in the country. But last year it came down to 13 deaths per 1 lakh. The efforts of the traffic safety committees across the country have resulted in the reduction of accidents.

The installation of traffic surveillance cameras on major roads and others has played an important role in reducing accidents. The Director General of Traffic said that the Ministry of Home Affairs is trying to reduce the number of deaths to two-thirds from eight per lakh by 2030.
