The Oversight Commission of the National Assembly summoned two senior officials of the Bank of Pacificthe Superintendent of Banks, the General Manager of the National Financial Corporation (CFN) and the director of the Financial and Economic Analysis Unit (UAFE).
The legislative table will seek to investigate the case that implicates lawyers of the financial institution and the defense of Mayra Salazarwho today are accused of allegedly agreeing to have the defendant Metastasis case accuse the former assemblyman of the Social Christian Party (PSC), Pablo Muentesin his early testimony.
The call ordered by the legislator Pamela Aguirre (Citizen revolution), president of the Oversight Committee, points out that the commission “needs to know the urgent control actions that the Superintendency of Banks has carried out and the possible impacts on the ratings of Banco del Pacífico.”
In addition, it requires information on “the actions of the board of directors, corporate governance, legal risk and reputational risk of Banco del Pacífico (…) that allow for further analysis.”
Parliament’s reaction comes after the release of a conversation allegedly between Juan Francisco Fierroexternal counsel of Banco del Pacífico, and Leonardo Toledolawyer of Mayra Salazarthe former public relations officer of the Provincial Court of Justice of Guayaswho is a key player in the Metastasis and Purge.
In that dialogue, Toledo allegedly claims Fierro because the jurist Ricardo Noboa and his son, Esteban Noboathey would not have paid a sum of money for the early testimony of Salazar.
At the end of March, Salazar pointed out that the former assemblyman of the Social Christian Party (PSC), Pablo Muenteswon a lawsuit against Banco del Pacífico with irregularities and thanks to the judge’s ruling Reinaldo Cevallos. Both are being prosecuted in Purga for alleged organized crime.
In a statement released on July 2, Muentes said that “everything said by Mayra Salazar (…) is absolutely false. Lies and gross misrepresentations intended to reduce her sentence.”
“My defense has repeatedly requested a report on the continued and strange appearances of attorney Francisco Fierro Tamarit to meet with Mayra Salazar,” he said.
For his part, Esteban Noboa indicated on his X account that the dissemination of this recording is “a desperate attempt to divert public opinion’s attention from the seriousness of his conduct and his alleged control of justice.”
“A morally disqualified person is trying to blame us for the results of his actions, which are known throughout the country and for which he is in prison,” said Noboa.
This Thursday, July 4, Fierro was detained for investigations, while Toledo is wanted by the Prosecutor’s Office. The case has been named as Implacable.
