Five latest generation HP computers, equipped with specific software to facilitate the learning of digital tools for the deaf and hard of hearing, five inverters, workstations made up of chairs and tables, a Wi-Fi connection with a one-year subscription, a video projector with its projection screen, in addition to the renovation of the computer room. For this 2023 edition of Ecobank Day, the Benin subsidiary of the pan-African bank has decided to strengthen the digital integration of learners from the Reception and Inclusive Education Center for the Deaf and Hearing (CAEIS) in Porto-Novo.
Representative of the General Director of Ecobank Benin, Hyppolite Dégbèlo returned to the context of this action and all the interest of this day for the Ecobank group. Recalling the theme of this edition of Ecobank Day, namely “Succeeding through digital skills”, he specifies: “it is about raising awareness and informing on the importance for children and young people to have digital skills . It is imperative that they have as solid a foundation as possible in terms of digital skills…”, underlined the representative of the Managing Director of Ecobank Benin. Anything that will transform the lives of young people, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, and will promote accelerated development in Africa.
In this process, Benin will not be left behind. “We want a Benin where our children and young people are prepared for the changing jobs of today and tomorrow. Digital skills will make them more attractive to employers, expand their career opportunities, give them transferable know-how and increase their earning potential,” said Hyppolite Dégbèlo. He then praised the efforts made by CAEIS officials for the education of deaf and hard of hearing children from disadvantaged backgrounds and expressed the bank’s gratitude to the partners of this day in Benin. “I am immensely proud of us…” he testified. It is also a source of pride for CAEIS officials who welcomed this gesture from Ecobank Benin, the first partner and local structure to think about this 29-year-old center. “From this day Saturday November 18, 2023, Ecobank Benin has definitely entered this house and we will be more proud to show your donations by demonstrating to anyone who comes here that apart from European partners, Ecobank Benin has also done useful work in this school,” testified the Director of the center, Paul AGBOYIDOU. This support comes at the right time, recognized and also testified by the beneficiaries who promised to make good use of it. “…We lack signs to express all our joy and gratitude to you because your donations fit well with the real needs of us, deaf learners,” declared Chantale AZEGUE, student representative.
For 20 classes, the center only had 05 video projectors, and the support of Ecobank Benin slightly strengthens the technical platform. It should be noted that the CAEIS is the largest school for the deaf in Benin in terms of its numbers, 263 deaf and hard of hearing in boarding or day school, and the only one which offers nursery, primary and secondary education to the child. deaf.
As a reminder, Ecobank Day is a flagship event in the field of corporate social responsibility. It is a day during which the bank gives its time to local communities in Benin and in 32 other African countries where it operates. She has dedicated herself to a noble cause every year for the past 10 years and helps vulnerable and deserving members of society by trying to make a real and beneficial difference for their benefit. It is therefore a special edition because it not only marks 10 years of impact in Africa, but also the starting point of a new three-year campaign where Ecobank wants to contribute to “Transforming Africa through Education”.
