According to data from the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 35 percent of the global population has unfavorably varied their sleep patterns due to the pandemic. In Mexico, he said that around 45 percent of the adult population has poor sleep quality and “during the pandemic this was accentuated” due to various factors such as fear of acquiring the virus, concern for infected family members and even anxiety about presenting an unfavorable recovery.

After the pandemic, it has been baptized with the name of “Covid-somnia”

He affirmed, in turn, that sleep disorders, during the pandemic, have been called “covid-somnia”, which include difficulty falling asleep, waking up earlier than normal or not having a restful sleep due to stress or the anxiety.

Elena Sañudo, specialist and medical director of the Sanofi Mexico General Medicine Unit, explained that insomnia has become a public health problem. This is because it generates general fatigue, irritability, lack of attention, memory problems, and anxiety. Regarding this, she expressed that “as one of the main public health problems in the world, insomnia must receive specialized treatment.”

However, he recognized that by not presenting physical pain, the vast majority of patients who suffer from it decide to ignore their symptoms and associate it only with a bad rest. That is why he insisted that “insomnia should be treated with the same importance as any condition and it is important to seek help from a professional at the first symptoms.”
