This is the landscape that can be seen, in the infrared band of the electromagnetic spectrum, from the point in space reached by the Euclid space telescope of the European Space Agency (ESA).

NASA has also participated in the construction of this space telescope.

The photo was taken with one of the spacecraft’s instruments, the NISP (Near Infrared Spectrometer and Photometer).

The image was captured during the preparations for the entry into service of the Euclid, verifying that said instrument, the NISP, works correctly.

The Euclid left Earth on July 1, from Cape Canaveral, Florida, United States.

It recently arrived at its destination, the place known as the Second Lagrange Point (L2), which is located at a distance of approximately one million and a half kilometers from Earth. For reference, the distance that separates the Earth from the Moon is about 400,000 kilometers.

The Second Lagrange Point offers advantageous conditions so that the Euclid can carry out its work for a long time.

The Euclid’s mission is to help unravel some of the biggest mysteries about the universe, including the nature of dark matter, and why the expansion of the universe is accelerating. This mysterious force that accelerates this expansion is often called “dark energy.” (Source: NCYT from Amazings)
