Hundreds of parents and students from Maginin Elementary School in Kiryat Haim participated this (Sunday) afternoon in a protest against the Haifa Municipality that took place at Aroma Square on Achi Eilat Boulevard in Kiryat Haim. The parents are protesting that a week and a half before the start of the school year, and the municipality still has not informed them where their children are. will learn
As was revealed last week in “Kelvo – Haifa and the Kiryat”, during the month of June blocks of concrete and plaster fell from the ceiling of one of the classrooms at the school. After pressure from the parents, a constructor arrived on the scene and determined that the building was dangerous. After that, it became clear that the rest of the school buildings also needed urgent renovation and restoration. According to the parents, all their requests to the municipality to meet on the issue have not been answered so far.
The chairman of the parents’ leadership at the school, Baruch Shamailov: “This is the opening shot, and from here we will only intensify the protest measures. Hundreds of parents and children came today to shout the voice of 700 children and 100 transparent staff members who do not know where they will study on September 1. This is a shame And disgrace to the municipality of Haifa and a certificate of poverty to the State of Israel.”
The Ministry of Education told “Kalvo – Haifa and the Keryats” that the district director Dr. Sa’ar Harel visited the place and spoke with the parents and that there are alternatives to the buildings.
Shmailov: “I want to hear from the municipality – which is responsible for the restoration of the buildings and the placement of the students – what is going on. I don’t understand why they leave us in the dark? Maybe on September 1 they will wake up, when the students will be sitting at home, and the municipal failure will get headlines all over the country. In every administration Ok, they would talk to the parents, explain to them, but as it seems to us, everyone is fighting the other there, and we are among the losers.”
