“We welcome and welcome the initiative at the international level of His Majesty King Mohammed VI aimed at strengthening the access of the Sahel countries to the Atlantic Ocean and underline the urgency of filling the enormous deficit in infrastructure and investments in the African Atlantic region”, indicated the presidents of the delegations of national parliaments and Arab, African and Latin American parliamentary unions, in the final declaration sanctioning the work of this Conference.
They highly praised the pioneering role played by the Kingdom of Morocco, under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, in the launch and support of all development and solidarity initiatives aimed at supporting South-South cooperation.
This Initiative, which aims to create a solid institutional framework bringing together the 23 countries of the continent overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, will make the Atlantic coast of Morocco a starting point for strengthening logistical links between the countries of the South at the maritime level. and aerial, they stressed.
This strengthening of logistical links is able to facilitate the exchange of goods, optimize investment flows in the countries of the South and bring together the production chains that create wealth and raw materials, particularly in the geoeconomic space. The parliamentarians also called for “taking inspiration from such initiatives in order to strengthen coordination, cooperation and South-South solidarity” between the countries of Africa, the Arab world, Latin America and the Caribbean in the bilateral, regional and interregional levels, particularly in areas linked to sovereignty and food, energy and health security, economic exchanges, sustainable development, coordination and consultation through permanent institutional channels.
The work of the Parliamentary Conference on South-South cooperation, placed under the high patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, was held Thursday and Friday in Rabat under the theme: “the role of national parliaments and regional parliamentary unions and continental organizations in Africa, the Arab world and Latin America in promoting strategic partnerships and achieving integration and common development.
This Parliamentary Conference brought together more than 260 participants from 40 countries, including 30 presidents of national parliaments and regional and continental parliamentary unions from Africa, the Arab world, Latin America and the Caribbean.
