The Port Passage Authority (Spain) has begun work this Thursday, January 18, to address the challenges of low nighttime luminosity in the access channel to the port. The intervention, awarded to the joint venture composed of Electrotécnica Del Urumea, Vareser 96, and Electrotecnia Monrabal, aims to improve security in night operations entering and leaving the port.

With an investment of 620,283.60 euros, the new lighting system will be implemented at strategic points of the access channel between San Pedro and San Juan. This system is based on intelligent luminaires that allow remote control during the passage of ships, thus contributing to reinforcing maritime security.

The works, with an estimated duration of 24 weeks, seek to improve visibility and provide greater flexibility and control to pilots operating in low light conditions. “The technology to be installed will increase the safety of maneuvers in low light conditions and expand operations at night,” says David Candelario, director of the Port Authority.

In San Pedro, luminaires resistant to inclement maritime conditions will be installed at the foot of the wall, while in San Juan lighting columns integrated with the landscape will be chosen, equipped with 495 W LED projectors to provide sufficient and focused lighting on the protrusions of the wall. coast for safe navigation.

The new system will operate efficiently and respectfully with the environment, helping to reduce energy consumption and light pollution. It will be activated only when the ship is operating during low visibility hours, which guarantees responsible use of resources.

Both the execution of the work and the subsequent commissioning will be carried out in compliance with an Environmental Monitoring Plan prepared in accordance with the guidelines of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge.

On the other hand, the Port of Pasajes has announced that it will carry out the implementation of an electricity supply infrastructure for ships at the Capuchinos dock in collaboration with Iberdrola. This service will be destined for UECC’s rolling cargo traffic.
