New cases of the disease are progressing more slowly, health authorities announced this afternoon.
After a progression of cases as unprecedented as it is worrying, the first epidemic of monkeypox that France has known seems to be marking time, as well as in all of Europe. The director general of health Jérôme Salomon underlined during a press conference Thursday that we observe in France “a slowdown in new cases for the first time”. His remarks echoed those of the World Health Organization which judged shortly before “encouraging” signs of a slowdown in the monkeypox epidemic in Europe.
If scientific modeling points in the direction of a continued reduction in the number of new cases, we must remain cautious at this stage, recalled Jérôme Salomon: “During this summer period, there may be delays in diagnosis”. However, he sees the “positive sign” that the means deployed by the public authorities, in consultation with the voluntary sector, “are effective”. Efforts to maintain and strengthen
