Comedian Cheon Soo-jeong revealed that she left the entertainment industry due to violence and bullying from fellow comedians in the past. He said that the comedians who bullied him are still on TV.
Cheon Soo-jeong recently uploaded a video on her YouTube channel titled ‘Why I beat up a comedian, now I can say it.’
He opened up by saying that although he had won rookie awards at two broadcasting companies in 2008, he suffered from pain secretly and eventually had to retire.
Cheon Soo-jeong said, “From the beginning of my debut, throughout my career as a comedian, I was so painful and anxious because of the secret pain,” and “I received the Rookie of the Year Award after my debut, but in fact, I was sick on the inside.”
He continued, “I felt like I was a ferry boat that encountered a huge iceberg in the midst of workplace violence,” adding, “At that time, I was swept away by the waves and couldn’t speak out. “Looking back, it was a time when flashy things weren’t everything and I lost my true self,” he confessed.
Cheon Soo-jeong said, “I was subjected to physical and verbal violence that went beyond the limit, and I felt shame that was difficult for a woman to accept. I left Korea and fled to Australia, tried to find other things to do, and tried to forget, but the traumatic time followed me for a long time. “I went around and harassed him,” he claimed.
Cheon Soo-jeong mentioned the fact that there was group bullying and said, “When I think of the people in my early 20s who scolded me and laughed at me because they didn’t want to hear my voice, my heart still races and my heart hurts.”
He said, “I couldn’t bear it anymore and wanted to leave. “I couldn’t survive if I didn’t hit him right away, and I think I did really well,” he said of his feelings at the time.
Soo-jeong Cheon, who currently lives in Canada, said, “I still can’t watch Korean TV programs that feature fellow comedians who are perpetrators of group bullying,” and “I feel like the time I spent living in fear and terror, as I was not the perpetrator, was pointless.”
However, Cheon Soo-jeong said, “Now I can honestly tell you why I beat up the comedian and why I had no choice but to leave the entertainment industry. They say the best revenge is forgiveness.” I try to forgive. “I’m happier now when I’m ordinary than when I was glamorous,” he said.
Cheon Soo-jeong, who debuted as an open comedian at MBC in 2008, continued to be active through ‘Gagya’ and also acted in dramas such as ‘Sangdu, Let’s Go to School’. He is currently living a new life with his family in Canada after getting married.
