Syed Abed Ali, the driver of the former chairman of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC) has been arrested on the charge of leaking question papers. Since then various aspects of Abed Ali’s life have been coming up on social media. A video went viral on Tuesday (July 9) claiming that Syed Abed Ali was shouting slogans at the death anniversary of BNP founder and late President Ziaur Rahman.
Chhatra League’s former general secretary Siddiqui Nazmul Alam shared the video on his verified Facebook page on Tuesday and claimed that the person in the video was the driver of Tahmina Begum who served as PSC chairman from 2002-07.

The former chairman of the constitutional institution confirmed the truth of the incident. Mohammad Sadiq He said, Dr. When Zinatun Nesa Tahmida Begum and ATM Ahmedul Haque Chowdhury were PSC Chairman, Abed was PSC Chairman’s driver. When Ikram Ahmad was the chairman, he was sacked. Later he was fired.
The investigation revealed that the person who raised slogans at Ziaur Rahman’s death anniversary ceremony was not Syed Abed Ali involved in questioning. The video was made available in reel form on May 31 on a Facebook page named ‘Sameer Garjan’. However, no information about the person chanting was available from the reel.
A further search revealed a press release signed by Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Senior Joint Secretary General of BNP. The notification is related to ‘Approval of the five-member partial central committee of the Nationalist Ulama Party’. The notification contained a picture of a person with a lookalike of Syed Abed Ali. It has been confirmed by reliable sources that the person who looks similar to Syed Abed Ali is Maulana Kazi Abul Hossain, member secretary of the Nationalist Ulama Party.
Later, when the person in the video was actually Maulana Kazi Abul Hossain, the member secretary of the Ulama party, BNP Chairperson’s press wing member Shairul Kabir Khan contacted him and he confirmed that the person shouting slogans in the video is Kazi Abul Hossain, the member secretary of the Nationalist Ulama party. When contacted Kazi Abul Hossain to be more sure, he said that he had seen the video. The person chanting is himself.
At this time Kazi Abul Hossain also said that the video is mine. The video of the sloganeering is from the death anniversary ceremony of late President Ziaur Rahman, the founder of BNP on May 29. The event was organized by Jubodal Dhaka Metropolitan North at Engineers Institute in the capital.
