Armand Duplantis set a phenomenal new world record in the shepherd’s jump. In his final attempt, he cleared a bar of 6.25 meters, 1 cm more than his previous best.
The Swede, who has dominated the event in recent years, secured a second Olympic title already at 6.10m and then raised the bar for the world record. He failed in his first two attempts, but then blew up the packed stadium.
Sam Kendricks (USA) took the silver 30 centimeters from him, and the bronze went to the dark-skinned Greek Emmanuel Karalis with 5.90 m.
This is the second world record of the Olympics after that of the USA in the medley relay of 4 x 400 meters, which, however, was in the heats.
