The philologist, poet and translator Jaume Medina died this Sunday at the age of 73. Born in Vic in 1949, he graduated in Classical Philology at the University of Barcelona (UB), for which he would end up getting a doctorate and teaching there. He is the author of poetry titles such as ‘Temps de tempesta’ (1974), ‘Encalçar el vent’ (1976), ‘Dura llavor secreta’ (1990) and ‘D’ara i de sempre’ (2000), but he also focused part of his career to research Latin and Catalan philology.
In 1979 he founded the Catalan Society of Classical Studies. The organization mourned the death of Medina this Sunday, as did the mayor of her town, Anna Erra, who assured that “I am losing a great philologist” and “a passionate about the Catalan language and literature”. .
