The Minister of Labor, Rolando Castro, met with representatives of more than 1,400 Occupational Health and Safety committees, with which the State Portfolio works jointly and in a coordinated manner.

From the governing body for the protection of Salvadoran labor rights, these committees have been provided with tutorials and instructions, in order to provide key tools to maintain preventive protocols to guarantee the well-being of the working classes.

“There are more than 1,400 committees with which we will be working together and in a coordinated manner, reinforcing our commitment to workplace safety throughout the country,” said Minister Castro. These structures have the duty to safeguard the integrity of workers in all the spaces where they work their daily tasks.

“The Occupational Health and Safety Committees are legally constituted, and our duty is to empower them,” said the Minister of Labor. Under this philosophy, Minister Castro indicates that both public institutions and private companies must recognize that the Occupational Health and Safety Committees are an authority on the matter.

Castro has reaffirmed that these spaces play an extremely important role in the links of production and economic development. “Their role (CSSO) is fundamental to guarantee the implementation and compliance of safety regulations in the workplace,” Castro stated.

He also explained that, previously, when a worker died at work, families received compensation of only $500. Today, we have managed to increase that compensation, reaching sums of up to $50,000, guaranteeing greater protection and justice for the affected families.
