The Pilgrim trawler “will cross the Thames” and will participate with the Cantabria brand and Lebaniego Jubilee Year 2023

The Counselor for Industry, Tourism, Innovation, Transport and Commerce, Fco. Javier López Marcanohas fired the Pilgrim trawler, which will attend the ceremonial flotilla of the Oxford-Cambridge test and of Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Isabel II. “The pendant of the boat waves with the Lignum Crucis and the frame sails with the image of the Cantabria brand and Lebaniego Jubilee Year”, the councilor celebrated. “The internationalization of the trawler, Cantabria and its paths is a great satisfaction as well as a powerful destination campaign”he has stated.

Counselor López Marcano has been at the Santander Maritime Station minutes before boarding the Pilgrim trawler bound for England, where he has been accompanied by the General Director of Tourism, Marta Barca; the manager of the Camino Lebaniego Foundation, Manuel Bahíllo; the director of Brittany Ferries Spain, Roberto Castilla; the marketing director of Brittany Ferries Santander, Daniel Holt; the president of Navigatio, Gabriela Mayans; the Navigatio coordinator, José Ramón Sáiz, as well as other representatives of these institutions.

The Ministry of Tourism, through the Camino Lebaniego Foundation, supports this initiative that belongs to the ‘Mar de Júbilo’ project, and whose vision is the interpretation of the Cantabrian Sea as a natural and cultural space, with a decided international vocation, but with strong roots in local communities. In addition, it aims to be a promotional route for the pilgrimage routes of Cantabria with the aim of attracting tourists and reinforcing the Cantabrian destination.

This Saturday the trawler arrives in Portsmouth, where it is received by the mayor of Havant, in a welcome ceremony where well-known figures of British rowing and events on the Thames will be. On April 2 Pilgrim will travel in his trailer to London to participate in the Boat Race Day Festival, a nautical stop led by the Gloriana (royal galley) that travels the Oxford-Cambridge route in the opposite direction one hour before the competition , and will remain on the finish line next to Chiswick Bridge.

A “Flag” trawler
The Pilgrim trawler won the Flag of the Concha de San Sebastián in 1995 with the Donibaneko crew, skippered by Juan Mari Lujambio. A boat built 30 years ago and that from the Navigatio association it has been restored and baptized with the name of Pilgrim in order to promote the Cantabria brand and the Lebaniego Jubilee Year 2023-2024, with the support of the Ministry through the Camino Lebaniego Foundation.
