Gudaku-A teenager who was presumed dead in the accident and sent to the mortuary, has bounced back and is making progress in hockey competitions. Vinay, 25, from Madikeri, Kudak, participated in the 2016 inter-state hockey tournament in Mysore and fought hard. But his team lost. In this tragedy, he was driving towards Madikeri with his teammates. Soon the car they were traveling in collided with an oncoming lorry. Four people in the car were said to have died and their bodies were sent to the mortuary, including Vinay’s body. His body was shaking. An autopsy was to be performed shortly. Then one of the inspectors noticed that his finger was moving. Subsequently, he was sent to Mysore. The doctors who examined him there said, ‘There is no blood in the body; It is jilted. Now, nothing can be done.’ Only one surgeon among them gave hope to the others by saying ‘Let’s try’. Immediately, a team of 16 doctors struggled for 10 hours and stitched 68 places on the head and face. Two broken femurs, left shoulder with a rod attached and sent to ICU. After several months of treatment, Vinay recovered and was reborn. After that, he returned to the hockey field after receiving training from a coach named Shravan. He has been playing better than ever and racking up wins. Even today, he has an ‘Iron Rod’ between his leg and left shoulder. While he has been making records in the game, he has achieved a similar feat in any 2011 tournament in which he lost. His family is suffering from poverty. He could not be selected for the national level NIS competition due to the radiation placed in his body. But Vinay, the player who won death, is a role model before others.
