The communist deputy for Seine-Maritime Jean-Paul Lecoq is keen on it. At the national office of the Socialist Party (PS), Tuesday evening, May 2, the unanimous position which emerged is that of a vote against. The office should, moreover, adopt an internal resolution demanding the recognition of Palestine, condemning the policy of colonization, the “illiberal drift” of the right-wing government allied with the extreme right, and rejecting the term “apartheid”. By using it, “Consciously or subliminally, we would be endorsing an unacceptable and counter-productive delegitimization of the State of Israel”believes the PS deputy of Essonne Jérôme Guedj. As for the ecologists, who have two signatory deputies, they wonder about the choice of the word “apartheid”, and about its divisive power.
Arduous dialogue
The communist Jean-Paul Lecoq, with his resolution, says he wants to bring the left to what he considers to be its fundamentals: “I hope there is still something left on the left about solidarity with the Palestinian people. All the campaigns accusing us of anti-Semitism challenge and may frighten some people, but I hope that the freedom of analysis and expression of left-wing MPs will go beyond that. »
On the side of La France insoumise (LFI), the text is seen favorably, although with more or less caution according to the deputies. The deputy for Seine-Saint-Denis Eric Coquerel did not sign it. “We must never give in to anti-Semitism, and nothing either to amalgamating speeches where any criticism of the Israeli government is worth anti-Semitism”he believes, judging ” intolerable “ this assimilation. Since at least 2019 and the declarations of Emmanuel Macron believing that anti-Zionism constitutes the“one of the modern forms of anti-Semitism”the left struggles to find a space to speak out in which to hold its line without being accused of anti-Semitism.
