In a press release received by MAP in Buenos Aires on Sunday, DHSF stressed that a large part of the Polisario hierarchy is being pursued by international justice for these serious violations of human rights, criticizing the sequestration by this paramilitary group of Sahrawis in inhumane conditions in camps in Algeria.
The same source underlines that the DHSF foundation has witnessed over the last two years the actions of the Polisario, with the blessing of its Algerian sponsor, claiming to have documented through evidence and numerous testimonies, the serious violations of human rights. Man exhibited during the second international meeting of human rights defenders, held from April 18 to 20 in Santiago.
This human rights NGO indicated that these violations were the subject of complaints before international justice, which was seized of the hundreds of Sahrawis disappeared or victims of arbitrary detention without trial and subjected to a regime of total isolation, in addition to the recruitment of child soldiers which has been denounced by the United Nations.
For all these reasons and like other human rights NGOs, DHSF demands the immediate release of all political detainees by the Polisario on Algerian territory, the clarification of the fate of hundreds of people missing and the punishment of those responsible for the rape of Sahrawi women.
This NGO stressed that Algeria and the Polisario are called to “listen to the calls of the international community to reach a solution to this artificial dispute, through the autonomy initiative for the Sahara presented by Morocco to the United Nations , which offers the Sahrawis a regime of political, economic, administrative and judicial autonomy,” adding that this initiative has garnered the support of the vast majority of countries in the world.
Addressing the human rights situation in Algeria, DHSF noted that this country remains mired in its painful past without any reparation for the victims, with in addition, in recent years, arrests and very severe sentences against journalists , social media influencers, human rights defenders and political opponents.
Algeria, added the same source, ended up transforming into a “repressive regime controlled and led by the military which has completely moved away from the initial project aimed at consolidating the independence of this country”, concluding that “the national liberation (of Algeria) was not only betrayed, but it ended up transforming into a military regime similar in many aspects to the dictatorships we experienced in Latin America.
