Enric Mas is the great hope of Spanish cycling for the Tour de France and one of the most regular vueltamanos in recent years. For this reason, his poor performance at the Critérium du Dauphiné made headlines and alarmed locals and strangers, with the race weeks away from the main objective.
This was reported by Leonardo Piepoli, assistant in the Spanish team, to BiciPro. “There were a lot of nerves, but then we found out what happened. Enric had dysentery and hid it so as not to make excuses,” said the former runner. “Now that we know what happened, we can continue working properly, there is no need to make a drama about this,” he completed.
“The Dauphiné was the last test before the Tour and although it didn’t go as we wanted it didn’t change our focus. Enric never did well in the Dauphiné and he has always done well in the Tour. Better that this happened now and not in July”, Piepoli closed.
