Coimbatore: In Selvapuram IUDP Colony, the poor who have been waiting for payment have demanded that the construction work of the Urban Habitat Development Board, which has been moving like a snail for three years, should be completed quickly and arranged for them to settle.
On behalf of the Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board (Coimbatore), flats are being constructed under the housing scheme for all. According to this, buildings are being constructed at places such as RS Puram Sundaram Road and Chittaputur for the low income group.
After the residences of 288 people living in Selvapuram IUDP Colony were damaged, they were demolished in 2018 and construction work started. Most of the people who lived here now live in rented houses.
The construction work has reached its final stage. In this context, all those who have paid contribution to the Urban Habitat Development Board request to complete the work and allot the flats at the earliest.

We have been living in 288 houses in IUDP Colony behind Selvapuram Pond for more than 35 years. At the end of 2018, the authorities promised to demolish the houses as they were damaged.
We relied on it and emptied it. Three years after the work started, the house is still not available. Last March, Urban Habitat Development Board officials asked 288 people to pay a contribution of 49,500 rupees each. The construction work is almost complete. On six sites, more than 500 houses have been built. Allotment of flats should be done soon.

Officials of the Urban Habitat Development Board said that 100 percent housing will be allotted to those already living in the IUDP colony. Once all of them have paid their contribution in full, the flats will be allotted by lottery. Only lift installation, electrical connection work. That too will be completed soon and allocation will be made to the beneficiaries,’ they said.
