He Port of Algeciras (Spain) is ready to take a significant step towards modernizing its Port Community System (PCS). The current version of this system was implemented in 2011 with a local one-stop shop approach. Over the years, some updates have been made, but the technological base remains the same, dating back to the beginning of the decade and running on its own infrastructure.
The Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras has decided to strategically redirect its PCS towards B2B (Business-to-Business) and B2G (Business-to-Government) value-added services. The new vision of the enclave will materialize in a completely renewed version of the Port Community System, called Teleport 2.0. Through this development, the port’s competitive position will be improved, achieving greater efficiency, reliability, traceability and transparency in its operations.
To achieve this ambitious goal, the implementation of a next-generation cloud architecture is considered essential. This will provide a solid foundation to create and deploy the necessary software, adapting it to the demands of the constantly evolving port-logistics sector.
Specifically, the Teleport 2.0 project is divided into three crucial phases. The first stage covers the design and implementation of the technological platform. The second focuses on the development and implementation of software for value-added services. Finally, the third stage focuses on the operation, maintenance and evolution of the Port Community System.
It is worth mentioning that the file for the operation, maintenance and evolution of the new Port Community System, called Teleport 2.0, was put out to tender last week by the port authorities. This project has an execution period of two years and has a base bidding budget of 3,299,873.28 euros, with an estimated contract value of 5,531,924 euros. Without a doubt, this investment reflects the commitment of the Port of Algeciras to promote efficiency and competitiveness in its technological infrastructure.
On the other hand, the Port of Algeciras has made the decision to entrust Dragados, the only company that participated in the bidding process, to carry out the works for the creation of a new space for the Civil Guard of the Sea in the dock. from El Saladillo.
