The Port of Algeciras grants Dayta the transfer of sand from El Rinconcillo

He Port of Algeciras (spain) has awarded to Demolitions That the transfer of sand on the beach of El Rinconcillo. The action will consist of distributing and outlining the coastal strip from La Concha to the mouth of the Palmones River, with an expected start of the works for the first week of May.

The Algeciras enclave had received a total of thirty offers for this project, however it has selected Dayta for an approximate amount of 386,000 euros (including taxes), according to the minutes of the contracting table of the Algeciras Bay Port Authority.

Specifically, the works will involve the movement of 90,000 cubic meters of sand accumulated in the area of the abutment of the North Access Bridge and the area of the navigation channel for access to the dock, to the south of the beach. For the extraction, earthmoving machinery will be used, dumper trucks for transport to the eroded area and shovels and bulldozers for pouring and spreading.

The work equipment will consist, at least, of a large chain excavator with a minimum reach of meters and a minimum bucket of 1.5 cubic meters, two articulated non-road dumpers with 6 driving wheels and a shovel with a chain pusher blade. Thanks to this machinery, it is estimated that the average yield would be 180 cubic meters per hour, which will mean the transfer of up to 1,440 cubic meters per day.

The works, which will last four months, will take into account the public use of the beach and environmental conditions. For example, the requirement not to carry out work in the dune area during the breeding season of birds that use the coastal sands as nesting areas, such as the Kentish Plover (Charadrius alexandrinus), will be respected.

Likewise, the limits of the Marismas del Palmones Natural Area, where Hypochaeris salzmanniana lives, an endemic herb of the province of Cádiz included in the Conservation Plan for Dunes, sandbanks and coastal cliffs, will be respected.

Another project under development is the improvement of the entry and exit of trucks. In this sense, the Port of Algeciras has granted Mc Valnera the performance of a study of alternatives to remodel the northern access. The project will involve a cost of 75,033.19 euros and will have a completion period of 166 days.
