The Danish company PowerCon A/S, in charge of this project, has proceeded to open the trenches to facilitate the arrival of the medium voltage electrical network to the dock, where the OPS system will be implemented to which the vessels will dock.

The initiative, whose investment is 4,978,640 euros, is being carried out at the same time that the terminal operator is expanding its storage capacity by 25%. It is worth mentioning that the ship electricity supply system will be the first to be installed in the enclave in compliance with the Nexigen project, which has an initial planned injection of 110 million euros and will be dedicated to implementing a medium voltage electrical network. to the main docks of the port.

For its part, the Hutchison Ports BEST terminal becomes the first container facility in southern Europe to offer this system. Through this tool, it will be possible to accumulate real and useful information, based on experience, on the supply performance of container ships.

In this way, it will be easier to detect best practices and identify future needs and developments for the proper functioning of the rest of the facilities that will be active before 2030. Specifically, the second pilot will be operational at the ferry terminal next year, allowing this system to be tested. also in this class of ships.

On the other hand, the University of Barcelona has carried out a study commissioned by the International Association of Cruise Lines and collected by EFE, in which it has highlighted that 4.1% of the tourists who will visit Barcelona this year will be cruise passengers and will cover 13 % of the collection of the tourist tax.
