The Bilbao Port Authority (Spain) has been nominated as a finalist in the Sustainability Awards 2023, after having been selected by the International Association of Ports and Harbors for its commitment to innovation and the energy transition.

Specifically, two projects presented by the Bilbao enclave have been chosen as finalists in the 2023 Sustainability Awards of this association, which is made up of 177 ports and 147 companies related to them in 84 countries.

Regarding the initiatives that have stood out in the contest, BilbOPS stands out in the Climate and Energy category, whose objective is to recognize the efforts of ports in their progress towards carbon neutrality. This category also includes as finalists the projects of the Port Authorities of Fiji and Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

The second notable project is the innovation hub of the port area, Bilbao PortLab, which is positioned as a finalist in the Community Development category, in which the social integration of ports and the principles of good corporate governance are valued.

This category has two other finalists, such as the collaborative project presented by Port Authorities of Egypt, Spain, France, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon and Tunisia; and a Dock Sub port initiative in Argentina.

It is worth mentioning that the winners of the Sustainability Awards 2023 will be established by votes from a professional jury and the public, who can contribute their votes until September 24 through the contest website.

On the other hand, the Port of Bilbao will welcome the arrival of a total of 20 cruise ships throughout September, to which there will be added some 60 stops scheduled for this year. The activity that the enclave will register is a sample of the interest that Vizcaya and the Basque Country are receiving in cruise tourism.
