The Port of Bilbao promotes the railway in its 2023-2026 Strategic Plan

The annual presentation highlights that in 2022 the Port of Bilbao moved 32.7 million tons, 1.5 million more than in 2021. This figure represents a growth of 5.1 percent, higher than the average for the group of ports of general interest, due to ongoing investments and both public and private projects, according to the Bilbao Port Authority.

Regarding the medium-term plans, it is noted that the 2023-2026 strategic plan is underway, which has set itself the objective of making the Port of Bilbao a benchmark in Atlantic traffic.

Advances and improvements in railway management and infrastructure

technological projects

Another of the main initiatives of 2022 has been the implementation of new technological advances. Within the FENIX project (Federated Network of information Exchange in logistics) the train service has been developed, called “eportua rail” which is currently being tested by both terminals and railway companies. This initiative aims to develop the first European federated architecture for the exchange of data by the European logistics community of carriers. In addition, artificial vision technologies have been tested for real-time recognition of vehicle, container and merchandise license plates and badges, allowing automated access control.
