The Port Authority of the Bay of Cádiz (Spain) has announced an investment of 788,920 euros to carry out maintenance dredging work in the channel and docks of the dock located in El Puerto de Santa María.

The main objective of the project is to facilitate the entry and mooring of ships, especially due to the sediments that the Guadalete River drags and that accumulate in the area of the mouth coinciding with the port dock.

The intervention, which will take place over the next four months, will focus on four specific areas, with a total dredging volume estimated at around 62,400 m³. The areas to be intervened include the fishing dock, the docking area for the catamarans and the river cruise, as well as the navigation channel.

Through these actions, the drafts will be restored to guarantee the operation of the docks, as well as the maneuverability and access of the vessels in any tide condition, preventing the deposits from rendering the dock unusable and affecting local industries, such as fishing, tourist and nautical-recreational.

The Port Authority emphasizes that the works will be carried out with the maximum environmental guarantees, with a positive report of compatibility with the Maritime Strategy of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge, as well as the discharge permit from the Maritime Captaincy. Furthermore, an Environmental Surveillance Plan will be implemented during the execution of the works, which will include various controls to ensure that the natural environment is not affected.

On the other hand, the Port of Cádiz has experienced an important milestone by becoming the embarkation port for the MSC Euribia, a cruise ship powered by Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG).
