He Port of Cartagena (Spain) has announced the implementation of improvements in access control to the multipurpose terminal at the Escombreras dock, located in the Andalusian enclave. Due to the lack of protection and shading elements for vehicles, as well as adequate personnel at this critical point, it has been decided to install metal canopies.

Therefore, two canopies will be installed, one at the entrance control and another at the exit control, with the aim of providing a safer and more comfortable environment for the staff working in this area.

Before installing the canopies, various preparatory works will be carried out, such as the demolition and lifting of pavements for the location of the structure’s footings, temporary diversions of supply and sanitation services, demolition of the enclosing wall, removal of fencing, disassembly of the entrance turnstile and the cover of the light vehicle parking canopy.

In addition, traffic maintenance will be ensured during the different phases of the work to minimize inconvenience to port users. It is worth mentioning that the canopy construction project has an estimated execution period of six months, with a base bidding budget of 477,890.78 euros and an estimated contract value of 394,951.06 euros.

Aside from these improvements, the Port of Cartagena has recently been awarded the 2023 Co-Responsible Award in the Public Administrations and Entities category. This recognition is granted by virtue of its outstanding oceanic posidonia reforestation project, known as “Underwater forest of the port of Cartagena”.
