The Port Authority of Castellón (Spain) has begun the conditioning work on the external transverse dock and the heel dock of the ro-ro ramp. These works, awarded to the Temporary Union of Companies (UTE) Acciona Construction and Becsa for an amount of 7,301,055 euros, VAT excluded, have a completion period of 12 months. The main objective of this initiative is to carry out the reconstruction of the pier and restore its functionality.

Work will begin with the demolition of the slabs and diaphragm wall enclosures, followed by the execution of a new foundation using high-strength concrete. These works will be carried out in two phases, with the purpose of keeping a part of the dock operational that does not require works at this time.

Specifically, the Inspections and Maintenance Plan of the Port Authority of Castellón identified serious damage to this dock, both in its exposed structure above the water and in its submerged structure, caused by the marine conditions. Among the problems detected were the corrosion of the norais, damage to the pavement, the partial loss of protection elements and the alteration of the position of some defenses, in addition to deficiencies in the frames and gaps in the reinforced concrete screens, among others.

Due to the severity of the damage, it was determined that it was necessary to intervene in the pier to restore its functionality, which required the partial closure of the affected area during the restoration process.

On the other hand, the Port of Castellón is positioned as the most transparent entity in the Spanish port system, according to the results of a recent analysis carried out by Dyntra, a platform that is responsible for evaluating and comparing the openness of public institutions to global level.
