The Port Authority of Castellón (spain) has reinforced its equipment to combat marine pollution by purchasing new barriers and containment equipment. In this way, the enclave goes from having 925 meters of barriers to 1,625 meters, thus allowing for a larger surface area in the event of a possible spillage into the sheet of water, both within the port area and in open waters.

It is worth mentioning that these new equipment will become part of the protection measures that the Castellón enclave is carrying out in the field of environmental sustainability. The initiative is financed by the Next Generation funds, within the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan of the European Union (MRR), with a total investment of 389,600 euros.

Among the tools that the Port Authority has integrated, 400 meters of containment barrier with automatic inflation system and reel with revolving base stand out; 150 meters of towable and special containment barrier for open water; 300 meters of containment and rapid deployment barriers; two high-pressure cleaners; an overflow skimmer; and a self-supporting tank for the temporary storage of liquids.

Likewise, the port area has received specific technical training for all the members of the operation in charge of its use in case of emergency, both for the port authority’s own personnel and for all the agents of the port community involved.

On the other hand, the Port of Castellón has supported the COBS project, Container Overboard System, which is part of the Ports 4.0 IDEAS Program. It is an open corporate innovation model adopted by Puertos del Estado and the Port Authorities.
