The Port of Ferrol advances in its first green hydrogen station

The Port Authority of Ferrol-San Cibrao (Spain) has started the procedures for the construction of its first green hydrogen station. This is an action that is part of the project to transform the dock of the port of Ferrol into one of the main centers of green energy in the Spanish port system, which has the collaboration of the companies Quantum DPI Group and Univergy Renovables Hidrógeno .

So, the first step to take is the construction of a public service station for the dispensing of renewable hydrogen, known as Hidrógeno Puerto de Ferrol SL In this first phase, the facility is divided into two parts. On the one hand, the green hydrogen dispensing point at 350 bar for land mobility that will have public access and will be located at the roundabout at the entrance to the inner port. The hydrogen will have the appearance and access of a service station.

The facility will be equipped with a mobile storage, a compressor and a cascade storage with a distribution system that will manage the output of hydrogen to the dispenser continuously and without pressure jumps.

Specifically, the service station will offer a capacity of 288 kg/day and will allow 27 kilos to be refueled every two and a quarter hours or three consecutive refuelings every seven hours. Likewise, the hydroline will be able to supply both the vehicles that work in the port sector and the general public. It will occupy 1,300 m² and will involve an investment of 1.3 million euros. The electricity consumption of the installation will be 100% of renewable origin.

This is the first part of a larger project that Quantum DPI Group and Univergy Renovables de Hidrogen will carry out within the framework of the Green Energy Lighthouse project led by the Port Authority, and which expects to soon implement a generation plant in the outer port of Ferrol.

On the other hand, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, president of the Community of Madrid, has presented the first hydrogen production and supply plant, with the capacity to refuel up to eight buses a day, although it will start with one, specifically, with urban line 2 of Coslada.
