The Board of Directors of the Port Authority of Malaga (Spain), in collaboration with Puertos del Estado, has approved the business plan for the year 2024, establishing key objectives aligned with the port’s development strategy.

One of the main focuses is the improvement of port intermodality, with the investigation of nearby logistics areas to optimize efficiency in the transportation and handling of goods. Environmental projects will continue under the “Green Port” initiative, which seeks to promote sustainability in port operations.

In parallel, work is being done on the integration of the port with the city, with notable projects such as the creation of an office space in Muelle Heredia and an area for hotel use on the Levante dock.

The bonus system will be maintained with the objective of encouraging maritime and port activities that favor economic and social development. These bonuses reach up to 40% for activities committed to sustainability, including the management of biomass, vegetable oils and fats, biodiesel, and the use of ships powered by Liquefied Natural Gas.

The transport of goods by rail will be promoted, applying bonuses to companies that use the rail connection between the port of Malaga and Los Prados, extending to the dry port of Antequera.

Regarding public investment for the period 2022-2027, the business plan is integrated into a broader investment framework of the Port Authority. Among the notable projects are the creation of the new dock 8 for the movement and storage of goods, the development of facilities for power supply to ships, and the conditioning of La Farola.

On the other hand, in an initiative to improve port infrastructure, the Port Authority of Malaga has plans to enable a plot at the bottom of dock 5 for the parking of semi-trailers and trucks.
