He Port of Santander (spain) has managed a total of 585,527 tons during the month of July, which indicates a growth of 7.2% compared to the same month in 2022, when 546,370 tons were obtained.

So, the accumulated for the first seven months of the year has reached 4,044,560 tons, that is, the best result in history for this stage. The president of the entity, Francisco Martín, considers it “very probable” that the barrier of seven million tons will be overcome this year, thanks to the investments made by the Port Authority and private companies to adapt the infrastructure to the needs.

Regarding accumulated traffic, it is worth mentioning the good performance of solid bulk, with an increase of 21.1% compared to the same period last year. A positive fact is that the traffic of goods such as cereals, sugar, scrap or sodium sulphate has increased.

For its part, general merchandise grew by 2.3% compared to the first seven months of last year, thanks to the good performance of machinery or pulp and paper. Regarding containers, the Port Authority has gone from handling 18,548 TEUs in the accumulated from January to July 2022 to 25,927 TEUs in 2023, which indicates an increase of 39.8%.

On the other hand, the Port of Santander has decided to facilitate the traffic of special transport of materials for wind farms by modifying the access lanes to the Raos wharf. Currently, the Santander enclave has three entry lanes and another three exit lanes, separated by concrete islands, plus a central canopy that covers the checkpoints and user registration points.
