The Santander Port Authority (spain) has increased its activity during the first six months of 2023, transporting a total of 3.48 million tons of goods, representing a growth of 11.6% compared to the same period last year.

It is the second enclave with the highest level of traffic in Spain, only surpassed by the Port of Motril (22.4%), according to data provided by Puertos del Estado. In the first half of the year, the movement of solid bulk in the Port of Santander increased by 21.1%, managing to move 1.87 million tons, a clear sign of the growing demand in this segment. For its part, the volume of liquid bulk experienced a decrease of 10%, standing at 128,564 tons.

Regarding general merchandise, it exceeded 1.45 million tons, representing an increase of 3.1% compared to the first half of 2022. In turn, the movement of containers shot up 18.4%, reaching 224,067 tons, while ro-ro traffic (roll-on/roll-off) obtained a solid growth of 5.4%, with 1.2 million tons.

However, not all sectors have obtained positive results. The number of passengers in the transport and cruise regime fell by 3.4% compared to the same period in 2022, with a total of 102,308 passengers transiting through the Port of Santander.

On the other hand, the traffic of passenger cars, buses and trucks obtained a spectacular increase, with 191,698 vehicles under the merchandise regime until June, which represents an increase of 45.2%.

On the other hand, the Port of Santander has decided to facilitate the traffic of special transport of materials for wind farms by modifying the access lanes to the Raos wharf. Currently, the Santander enclave has three entry lanes and another three exit lanes, separated by concrete islands, plus a central canopy that covers the checkpoints and user registration points.
