The Port of Seville launches its railway branch of the Free Zone

The Seville Port Authority (spain) has inaugurated its railway branch of the Free Zone. It is a 700-meter-long infrastructure, located on the southern perimeter edge of the Torrecuéllar Industrial Estate and on the access road to the old lock, now out of use.

The branch will reinforce the railway connection of the companies located in the Free Zone, by joining them with the railway ring that surrounds the perimeter of the port. The Tecsa company took over the project for a value of 762,817.95 euros in September 2022. The final objective is the construction of a new railway terminal connected to the railway ring from a diversion implemented within the works of the new Puerta Lock from sea.

The Port Authority estimates that it will use the new branch for the traffic of solid and liquid bulk and general merchandise. Apart from promoting the multimodality of the enclave, the new branch will facilitate the flow of goods exclusively by train from the port public domain itself.

The objective of the Port Authority is to invest more than 40 million euros in railway infrastructures in a period of five years, which includes the work of the new direct access to the port. This injection forms 40% of the total budget allocated to modernize the port infrastructures until 2027. Currently, the Sevillian enclave offers train connections with Sines, Madrid, Bilbao, Valencia, Extremadura and Córdoba

On the other hand, the Port of Seville has received three offers for the contract related to the technical assistance work for the drafting of the mobile railway bridge to be installed at the access to the container terminal.
