He Port of Tarragona (Spain) continues to progress in the works related to access to the Logistics Activities Zone (ZAL). In fact, the construction of the underpass under the C-31B highway is progressing as established, which connects Tarragona and Salou, and which is part of the access project intended to connect the ZAL of the port area with the access road to the highway. At the moment, the works are classified in phase one, which began last June 2023 and is estimated to end in the first quarter of 2024. This phase consists of diverting traffic from the C-31B to the road built in phase zero. In this way, the C-31B is freed and the underpass and links on the north side are built, which involves the Piconadora roundabout and the Prats road.
As for the last phase, it will consist of resuming normal circulation on the C-31B and finishing the links on the south side without damaging the road.
During the first phase, work is proceeding on the main trunk of the C-31B, thus completing the 162 piles that are part of the walls of the underpass and beginning the construction of the upper reinforced concrete slab. Work is also being done on the new grade of the road and on the retaining walls of the new links towards the roundabout and the Prats road.
Before carrying out these works, a temporary road was installed and traffic was then diverted to this road. Phase two, expected to begin before summer 2024, will restore normal traffic on C-31B and conclude the southbound interchanges without disrupting the highway.
All phases of the work are being supervised by the Territorial Highway Service of the Generalitat of Catalonia and have been structured in such a way that they do not harm traffic on the C-31B highway. The companies in charge of this project are Lantania, SAU and Roma Infraestructures i Serveis, SAU, which have been contracted in November 2022 for an amount of 5,258,338 euros.
On the other hand, the Port of Tarragona has recently announced the launch of a tender for the installation of photovoltaic panels in Shelter 1, as well as connections and auxiliary facilities at the Costa dock.
